A Nostalgic Dance Performance Returns to the Stage of the Mahalia Jackson Theatre
On November 22nd, the always inventive and inspiring Pilobolus returns with a delightful new show at Mahalia Jackson Theater!
For over 45 years, Pilobolus has tickled the imagination and entertained the world with its breathtaking physicality that defies what is humanly possible. Following sold-out performances of Shadowland, Pilobolus's new evening-length show uses the exploration of mixed media to tell a love story about two people and their quixotic quest to save an imaginary bird.
This playful ensemble of gravity-defying, shape-shifting dancers returns with the Louisiana premiere of the full-evening Shadowland-The New Adventure. Pilobolus—named after a barnyard fungus that propels its spores with extraordinary speed, accuracy, and strength—is a dance company founded by a group of Dartmouth College students in 1971. Pilobolus continually forms diverse collaborations that break down barriers between disciplines and challenge the way we think about dance.
Using mixed media, animation, dance and shadow theater, this charming, madcap adventure to save a magical bird is full of visual surprises that will enchant audiences of all ages!
The venue, the Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts, is a theater located in Louis Armstrong Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was named after gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, who was born in New Orleans. The theater reopened in January 2009, after being closed since the landfall of Hurricane Katrina and now, it’s hosting this inventive show.
Tickets for Pilobolus In Shadowland start at $35 and are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com.
