Learn About Christmas from a Victorian Standpoint During This Seasonal Exhibit

With Christmas on the way, Otis House has opened the Otis House Museum: Christmas in a Victorian Parlor exhibit. Visitors are invited to enjoy seasonal decorations and learn Christmas customs, lifestyles and history from the Victorian Era through the Great Depression years.

In the parlor, a tree featuring vintage and reproduction hand-made ornaments, candles and popcorn streamers will be displayed. Popular gifts and how they were exchanged will be covered along with many superstitions, myths and the history that helped shape the celebration of today.

In the breakfast room, a totally different Christmas tree depicts the Great Depression-era adorned with tinsel and garland, electric lights and fragile glass ornaments popular of that time period. The presentation will include not only how technology changed the dressings on the tree, but the popular gifts and how they were presented.

Admission is $4 per person aged 13-61, seniors aged 62+ and children 12 and younger are listed free on the tour ticket, acquired at the park’s entrance station. We can’t wait to see you there!

Even though Brookstone Park Apartments in Covington, Louisiana provides you with all of the comfort, convenience, and entertainment you could possibly desire, we encourage our residents to venture outside of our apartment community and explore all that the city has to offer!
